I am interested in the host-microbiota mutualism relationship and its role on the adaption of the host in various environments.
For instance, my research on microbial ecology of Atlantic salmon aims to determine the effect of the rearing environment on the microbiota of stocked fish. The characterization of the microbiota at different life cycle stages will lead to a better understanding of the ontogenesis of the microbiota, as well as its impact on the host physiology.

The ontogenesis and characterization of Salmo salar gut microbiota from wild and reared populations

​Conservation methods such as supportive breeding are used to overpass the Atlantic salmon's population decline occuring in the Province of Quebec. For this project, I want to compare two rearing methods which differs in terms of sanitary management.​ For instance, I want to dertermine the microbiota composition of salmon larvae at various stages that are either housed in a traditional hatchery where water and eggs are sterilized or in a hatchery which is supplied by river water, corresponding more to a "natural" environment. In addition, I want to determine wether gut microbiota of stocked fish has the capacity to adapt when facing an environment change such as stocking.​
