My dream is to understand a sea of organisms which are all related and evolve in a disordered yet perfectly balanced world. The fact that fishes reality is so different than ours makes them, by far, the most interesting creatures on earth.

I am interested in the evolution of fishes considering them as a holobiont and not a single evolving entity.

Flag cichlid ( M. festivus)
M. festivus phylogeography (2018-2020)
My first research project is about the impact of physicochemical characteristics of water on the reproductive isolation of the flag cichlid (M. festivus), a fish with low dispersal ability that is omnipresent in all the amazonian water types. One of those water types, black water, is very acidic and high in dissolved carbon. On the other hand, white water contains a very low amount of ions and contains a lot of silica making its turbidity very high. We think that our model, extended on more than 1000 km, could explain a part of the speciation currently occurring between the two water types present in the amazonian watershed.
